What do I need to know?

Tryouts are open to club members, returning players and new players, but we will NOT BE HOLDING PRACTICES DURING TRYOUTS!

Please only attend tryouts if you are a competitive player intending to try out for one of our competitive teams. ***If you have never played before or are a beginner, you will be directed to join Open Practices instead (reference our calendar here for a schedule).

These tryouts will be a mix of small sided and full field play. Tryouts are free and we recommend that players attend as many tryouts as possible. Please reference the level of play section below and fill out the required form here before attending (this form only needs to be filled out once, it does not need to be filled out before every tryout). Please complete the form at least 24 hours before the tryout you plan on attending.

Fall Tryouts Schedule:

  • Women’s/Non-Binary (2 tryouts):

    • Tue. 7/14, 8-10PM, Fairfax High School (7850 Melrose Ave)

  • Rosters will be announced by Fri. 7/31, via email/posted on our website

  • Deadline to accept a roster spot & pay league fees (& club dues if owed) will be Mon. 8/3

    • No exceptions; if you do not respond in time, your spot will be filled with someone else.

    • Captains will email rosters with instructions/links to pay fees.

    • Failure to pay dues or league fees will result in immediate removal from the team/club.

Important Reminders:

FOR ALL PLAYERS:

To be considered for a roster spot, you must attend at least 1 tryout. We recommend attending 2 tryouts and encourage players to indicate interest in multiple teams if they are unsure of the best fit for them. This gives captains a better opportunity to watch and evaluate your play and consider players across all our available playing opportunities.

***All players joining a roster at this time will be required to pay yearly club dues ($75 for the rest of 2026) as well as pay league fees (~$75-80). Failure to pay either of these fees will result in immediate removal from the roster/club.

The club is committed to offering scholarships for players seeking support. Click here to learn more and to apply.

FOR RETURNING PLAYERS:

If you are a returning player who can not attend tryouts, it is at the discretion of the captains if you can still be considered for a spot on the team.

  • No exceptions for new players. If you are new to the club you must attend at least 1 tryout to be placed on a roster.

  • We know extenuating circumstances come up, we ask that you are proactive in communicating those to captains BEFORE tryouts begin (be sure to indicate on your tryout form), so that we can make an effort to evaluate your play at a different opportunity. Please reach out to contact@wehosc.org and we will help direct you to the captains.

If you are a returning player who did not meet the minimum attendance requirements in the previous season you will be ineligible to participate in this upcoming season. Captains will be informed ahead of tryouts who those players are.

For more information please reach out to us at contact@wehosc.org.

Players will be rostered on rec teams based on the appropriate skill level. This will be done at the discretion of our Men’s-All Gender or Women’s/Non-Binary program directors & the Captains to ensure the safety/maximum enjoyment of all involved. For new members to the club we ask you to kindly attend practice regularly for three months before asking to be placed on a team.

What is expected of a player to qualify for a roster?

  • Attend tryouts (must attend 1, recommended players attend 2)

  • Demonstrate the level of playing ability that is needed to be competitive on the team you are trying out for.

    • For more information, please see the Level of Play section above.

  • Commit to attend at least 70% of regular season games, providing your captains with advance notice if you will be out. It is vital for our competitive program that players are committed and show up for their teams regularly, that is the only way to build good momentum throughout the season and set our teams up for success.

    • If you cannot commit to 70% of games for the season, it is up to you to communicate with your captains and discuss alternative arrangements (i.e. acting as a sub or reserve player for the season).

    • All players are expected to communicate with captains about game attendance each week, confirming at least 3 days before game day if you are available for the coming game.

      • Any no shows will be treated as UNEXCUSED and grounds for immediate removal from the roster (at the discretion of the captains).

      • If you miss more than the allowed games, captains will have the ability to remove you from the roster for the current season and you will be ineligible to participate in the next season.

    • Please review the tentative game dates below in advance of tryouts:
